I have been mentioning in these past few days about how Instagram is changing the modelling world and how models are signed based on their Instagram profiles.
So what is Swipecast now? Before we get into the details, let me tell you about why I think it’s the Tinder of the modelling world.
If you have been hiding under a rock and don’t know what Tinder is, then I applaud you. Tinder is a dating app where you see photos of men and women and if you like each other, you can start messaging and the rest is history. It sounds simple yet complicated. So instead of dating, think of Swipecast as a way for models, photographers, retailers, designers, and even stylists, to meet and get access to everyone for work purposes.
There are strict rules enforced here as well. If you’re a model who’s already signed to an agency in New York, you can’t simply get a gig in New York without the app’s knowledge. So you would have to place your current agency there. But, if you’re signed in New York and would want to book a gig in Rome, then it’s all good.
And if you’re an unsigned model, then this will definitely help you heaps!
It’s just as easy as receiving a Facebook friend request. What do you all think of it?

I personally think technology has helped the fashion industry a lot. And I don’t see why these apps cannot be used. It’s just like ebay and online shopping, or ebooks and ebook readers. None of these virtual versions can replace the great feeling of stepping inside a mall and strolling around. Nor can it replace the smell of books and the joy of being able to turn the page.
Don’t you miss the times when models had exciting stories to tell on how they were discovered? Watch this video and see how inspiring Iman’s discovery was:
But times are changing and the industry is coping. So should you. 😀
